FORT KNOX, Ky. – Cadet Summer Training (CST) goes beyond just the Cadets. For some, it is getting to pursue their passion to be able to lead and impact the future of the United States Army. The Field Leadership Reaction Course (FLRC) gives leaders a chance to practice and prepare to teach the incoming Cadets on Fort Knox.

FLRC is a team-building exercise that is designed to display Cadets’ ability to not only lead a unit, but to also to develop skills that translate into their assessments of the Cadets.

For Capt. Eleazar Capuz, an OCT academy instructor at University of Central Arkansas, he says, “It was kind of a dream job, being able to instruct cadets. But I didn’t realize that there was a different part of that where I could be instructing the instructors being able to impact them.”

Capt. Capuz highlights the impact of the OCT Academy that is far beyond themselves.

“There’s that inspiration and impactfulness that we do here that ends up going out to the Cadets as well,” said Capuz.

Similarly, Lt. Col. Diana A’Xaymac, a professor of military science at Alabama University has a strong passion to teach and impact the younger generation. So much so that she has competed for three years through a board process to be selected as a professor of military science.

A’Xaymac says, “I enjoy teaching the Cadets, my goal in this is the desire for me going back there [University of Alabama] was to actually help the next generation of officers, get the opportunities that were given to me and lead them down the pathway for whatever goal they want to be.”

For some of the instructors alike this will be Lt. Col. A’Xaymac first year as a instructor at CST. She will have 23 students coming here for camp this summer.

“I am super excited to see how well they preform when they get here,” A’xaymac said. “I’ve been really excited about this opportunity since my first year being a professor of military science.”

As the Cadre continue to go through OCT academy they are ready to lead the incoming cadets.

“We are here to evaluate attributes and competencies for the cadets that come because they’re gonna take that and be able to lead the future sons and daughters of the United States Army,” said Capuz.
