FORT KNOX Ky., — Growing up in a military household, Thinalyn Ramier moved around a lot, but there was one thing that remained consistent for her math. It was the one subject she could always pick up the easiest when moving schools and now it is something she is pursuing at Texas Christian University.

“I study mathematics and seeing how it stays consistent and remains the same throughout every country, every city and every state has really reminded me that there are consistencies in life,” Ramier said. “And as a military kid, that really influenced me to stay with mathematics.”

With a passion for math and helping others, Ramier has tutored people in the subject since she was in 8th grade.

“I love working with kids and I have fallen more in love with teaching others ever since,”  Ramier said.

However Ramier’s teaching experience does not stop there. Now assigned to 7th Regiment, Advanced Camp, Ramier is on her way to become a future army officer.

While having to move around was difficult for her, now grown up she has a better appreciation for the Army, as well as the person in her family that joined before her.

“My dad was in the army for 40 years on the enlisted side and yes, I do mean 40, he really inspired me by how he held himself and provided for my family. He is one of my main inspirations behind joining the military.”

With Ramier hoping to branch into the reserves, all Ramier wants to do is be in service to others.

“I don’t think I want to be a leader necessarily, I want to make a difference and make a change,” Ramier said. “I saw how the military really impacted my dad, and I think me being inspired by that as a young girl took effect and took the reins from there.”
