FORT KNOX, Ky.-  Cadet Georgia Plocha from Western Michigan University assigned to 3rd Regiment, Advanced Camp, went through the movement-to-contact lane during day two of the Grizzly phase field training exercise on July 5, 2026.

The movement-to-contact lane of FTX consists of moving into an enemy area to flank and assault the enemy. The main goal of this lane is to teach the cadets formation tactics and how to preserve combat power.

For Plocha, her job was to be a part of the security squad for her platoon. Even though the platoon encountered some miscommunication between squads, she was still happy to have people rely on her.

“There was a little bit of miscommunication,” Plocha said. “But I feel like when we do come together as one big platoon, it makes [training] a lot easier.”

After graduating Cadet Summer Training, Plocha wants to branch into Adjunct General. Adjunct General is a personnel branch that helps with many different pieces behind the scenes like changing duty stations, counting people and helping the soldiers’ families.

“I just want to be that person that can help a family out when they need it most,” Plocha said.

She wants to branch AG because she wants to give back the way people gave back to her family. Her dad did 18 and a half years in the U.S. Army as an 11 Bravo. She remembers how the AG Branch helped her family out when she was growing up and how grateful she was to them.

“I would be that person for somebody else, [helping] another family that went through the same situation,” Plocha said.
