Fort Knox, Ky. – With the heat of summer coming to a close, Cadets assigned to 10th Regiment, Advanced Camp still face the heat of Cadet Summer Training at the chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear chamber on Fort Knox, Ky., on Aug. 1, 2025. This training works to build confidence in Cadets, both in their equipment and themselves.

Cadet Bryan Sivelle, Loyola University Chicago, is no stranger to the chamber but still finds himself ready for the challenge.

“These training environments help build confidence and help show you what it looks and feels like when done properly,” Sivelle said.

Having prior service, Sivelle is working hard to be the change he wants to see in and out of the Army.

“I wanted to lead others with a good example, because when I was in, there were times that I had bad examples of leadership and I felt that I could make the change.”

During not only CBRN training but throughout CST, Cadet Sivelle plans to use the experiences and apply them to the future.

After the initial burn of the CS gas, Cadets learn that there is purpose to what they are doing. Cadet Spencer Jones, University of Kentucky, is using CBRN training as a backbone for why he plans to join the Chemical Corps.

“My favorite part about today was being able to talk to the Cadre here and hear about their experiences,” said Jones.

Jones joined ROTC because he knew it would push him past his limits. He wanted to build relationships that would last a lifetime while learning about the Army from those who know it best. Using these connections, his commissioning plans are beginning to solidify.

“I was able to gain a lot of insight today as to what goes on in the Chemical Corps,” said Jones. “While there are obviously pros and cons to every branch, it’s an exciting time to see what is feasible within the branch.”

Going through the various events that CST has to offer provides Cadets the opportunity to truly see what the Army can offer.

As camp begins to slow down, Cadets continue to understand their purpose within the Army. From facing CS gas head on to building lasting connections, Cadets are able find the confidence to face the remaining challenges of CST.
