FORT KNOX, Ky. – Ever since Cadet Agyemang Kusi and his family emigrated from Ghana to the United States in 2019, he has always viewed the military as a safe haven where he can pursue the American dream.
Kusi, a student from Fayetteville State University assigned to Alpha Company, 3rd Regiment, Advanced Camp, believes the best way for him to advance his career is through the military, taking every opportunity he can during his prior enlistment.
From childcare and housing to scholarships for his education, the affordances the U.S. has given him has inspired him to join the “Green to Gold” program – advancing himself while giving back to the country that has already given him so much.
“I’ve dreamt about becoming an Army officer for a very long time,” said Kusi. “It’s a good time for me to pay back the country that gave me a whole lot for me and my family.”
Not only was he part of the Army family through his friends and relatives, he’s created his own connections through his battle buddies and the peers surrounding him.
After completing Cadet Summer Training, Kusi hopes to become an astute and insightful officer that can continue to help his community.
“The experience I’m going to get from CST and from my program as a whole will better my life and my career,” said Kusi. “To advance in the military and army as a whole, I would take that opportunity every day.”
