FORT KNOX, Ky.– Cadet Summer Training builds leaders by emphasizing the importance of pushing yourself. On June 21, 2026, 4th Regiment, Advanced Camp, pushed themselves to their limits.
Cadet Adalia Ashley from Wheaton College, was among those striving to the limit.
Ashley joined Army ROTC to be a role model to her younger cousins that look up to her.
“To be a light and motivation to a lot of my younger cousins that are females to show them that you can be anything that you put your mind to,” Ashley said.
Her cousins are a big part of her life. She has noticed how her little cousin follows her in footsteps, even with something as small as playing the same sports as her.
Her motivation is not just for her female cousins, but for all women in the Army. In a male-dominated field, Ashley knows the hardships it takes for women.
“You might not be physically stronger than men, but you could be mentally strong and spiritually strong,” Ashley said.
Faith has also played an important role in Ashley’s life, calling her to Army ROTC and becoming a leader in this field.
“It’s a push on my heart to strive toward the mentally ill,” Ashley said. “It’s very important just because the Army can be a dark place spiritually.”
She credits God for a lot of her motivations and aspirations, trying to lead and love the way God wants for her.
She plans on using her faith and intertwining it with her leadership style, being a leader that is motivated and caring.
“I want to be a leader that is very compassionate,” Ashley said.
Ashley says the life God is calling her into is tough but she knows overall that when she looks back at CST after graduating, she will appreciate being placed into this role.
