FORT KNOX, Ky. – On June 5th, 2026, 2nd Regiment, Advanced Camp Cadre went through the Engagement Skills Trainer (EST) to prepare to coach Cadets for their Basic Marksmanship Instruction.
Cadre reviewed the functions of the M4 Carbine rifle, magazine changes, keeping the rifle steady and looking through the sight with hands-on training. The Cadre were also able to focus on coaching by reenacting different scenarios that could happen with their Cadets.
Lt. Col. Kyle Frazer, professor of military at University of Utah, was one of the Cadre members there, rebuilding the standard of training with his team.
Frazer emphasized the importance of consistent training standards and vocabulary to allow the Cadre members to focus more on the Cadets than stressing about discrepancies.
“If we can’t speak in the same doctrinal tone, you get inconsistencies, which means there’s variances on how Cadets receive information.” Frazer said.
Frazer’s goal is to always set his trainees up for success whether that means showing tough love or offering an empathetic shoulder. His leadership style focuses on individual needs of the Cadets especially when leading his own company team.
Frazer emphasizes the importance of addressing each Cadet and truly getting to know who they are. He plans on using this style of leadership for the 2026 Cadet Summer Training, EST.
“You need different personalities at different points, because everybody’s going to bond, mesh, and relate to a different personality,” Frazer said. “We can put them in an environment [where] they’re comfortable… they’re focused on the task at hand.”
