FORT KNOX, Ky.- 2nd Regiment, Advanced Camp, went out to the Field Training Exercise (FTX) June 25th, 2026 at Fort Knox, Ky., to gain some practical field experience armed with all they have learned throughout Cadet Summer Training (CST).
FTX is an event that emphasizes the role of leadership in the Army and molds the incoming leaders in an intense field environment.
Cadet Sophia Rebeschini from Kansas State University was among those who had the opportunity to practice a leadership position.
Rebeschini was the radio telephone operator (RTO), her job was to make sure the communications were running smoothly between all squads while also relaying messages to the platoon leader.
“I was able to help her facilitate communication with the squad leaders and make sure they weren’t all bombarding [the platoon leader]. She could get the information out that she needed to and orchestrate [her plan] within the platoon,” Rebeschini said.
Rebeschini views leadership as a team sport and values being able to work with others.
“Leadership means to me working well with your peers and reaching a common goal, always including everybody, making sure that everybody is with the plan and making sure everybody’s okay,” Rebeschini said. “You want to watch out for your buddies and they’ll watch out for you.”
Rebeschini talks about how the hardest part of FTX so far has been fire guard and staying awake for those long nights. But, one of the best parts of those nights is the community that happens with your platoon. She says that everybody in her platoon has a good attitude and hopes that it continues until the harder sections: Panther and Grizzly.
She offers advice for Cadets who have yet to begin their FTX.
“Come with a good attitude because if you’re fun, you have a positive outlook and you’re willing to work to get it done and be teachable, then I think you’ll have a great time at FTX,” Rebeschini said. “You’ll have a great outcome overall.”
