Colonel Aaron Billingsley Biography
Colonel Colonel Aaron Billingsley was commissioned into the Army and branched Infantry through the ROTC program at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. He later earned a Master’s Degree in Adult Education from Kansas State University and Master’s in Strategic Studies from the Air War College. Throughout his career, he has held various leadership and staff positions.
As a Lieutenant, COL Billingsley served as a Platoon Leader in the 1st Cavalry Division and deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom II. Following this deployment, he took on the role of OPFOR Platoon Leader and Headquarters Company Executive Officer at the 6th Ranger Training Battalion at Eglin Air Force Base in Florida.
After graduating from the Maneuver Captain’s Career Course (MCCC), he was assigned to Fort Campbell, Kentucky, with the 101st Airborne Division (AASLT), specifically with the 1-327 Infantry from 2007 to 2009. During this time, he commanded Bravo Company, 1-327 IN, and deployed to Iraq for 15 months during the height of the Iraqi Surge. Upon returning from Iraq, he was reassigned as the Assistant Professor of Military Science at Middle Tennessee State University, serving from 2009 to 2012.
Promoted to Major, COL Billingsley returned to Fort Campbell as an Operations Officer in the Division G3. After a year in this role, he became the Brigade Planner for the 2-101 and subsequently deployed to Afghanistan in Regional Command East. Following this deployment, he attended the Command and General Staff College (CGSC) at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.
Upon completing CGSC, he was assigned to the 82nd Airborne Division, initially serving as the Division G3 Air for one year. He then held the positions of Battalion S3 and Executive Officer for the 2-505 Parachute Infantry Regiment, serving one year in each role. After his tenure with the 82nd, he joined the XVIII Airborne Corps at Fort Bragg, North Carolina, where he spent a year as the Deputy Chief of Operations, followed by two years as the Corps Chief of Operations.
COL Billingsley commanded the 4th Ranger Training Battalion from May 2021 to May 2023. He then served as the G3 for the Maneuver Center of Excellence before completing the Air War College at Maxwell Air Force Base. Most recently, COL Billingsley served as the Director for the Live Training Directorate (LTD) and as the Interim Commander of the Army Training Support Center (ATSC) at Fort Eustis.
COL Billingsley’s military education includes the Air War College, the Command and General Staff Officers Course, the Maneuver Captain’s Career Course, the Infantry Officer Basic Course, the Bradley Infantry Fighting Vehicle Commanders Course, Ranger School, Basic Airborne Course, Jumpmaster Course, and Air Assault School.
His major awards and decorations include the coveted Ranger Tab, the Master Combat Infantryman Badge, the Master Parachutist Badge, the Air Assault Badge, the Bronze Star, and the Meritorious Service Medal (with one Silver Oak Leaf Cluster).
