The Nurse Summer Training Program (NSTP) is a four-week clinical training opportunity typically offered to nursing cadets between their junior and senior year. This program provides cadets real-life experiences that most nurses will not encounter until after college graduation. Through one on-one training with an experienced Army nurse at select military treatment Facilities, cadets will complete 120 or more clinical hours, setting them ahead of their nursing peers.

NSTP participation is highly recommended but optional. Cadets must apply to enroll.

Learn more:

  • Must be an Army ROTC nursing cadet (CCIMM label JXX).
  • Must be in good academic standing.
  • Cadets must complete at least one semester or two quarters of an adult medical-surgical nursing course with a clinical component by May of the year they plan to attend NSTP.
Note: Community health and psychiatric nursing courses do not meet this requirement.
  • If attending both Cadet Summer Training (CST) and the Nurse Summer Training Program (NSTP), cadets must be scheduled in one of the first five CST Advanced Camp regiments and report directly to their NSTP site with no break in training.
  • Must complete the full 29-day NSTP rotation.
  • Must meet Army height and weight standards and pass the Army Combat Fitness Test (ACFT).
  • Must have a security clearance initiated.
  • Must be up to date on required immunizations by the start of summer training (May).
  • Must maintain a current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification through the end of August from a recognized provider, such as the American Red Cross or American Heart Association.

Note: NSTP applications may be submitted without proof of BLS certification and immunizations, but documentation must be received by May.

  • Must complete required online training via Joint Knowledge Online (JKO) (Common Access Card required):
    • DoD Cyber Awareness
    • HIPAA and Privacy Act Training
  • Must sign the NSTP acceptance memorandum if selected to attend.
