Medical Surgical Nurse
All Army nurses begin their careers as 66H medical-surgical nurses after completing the Basic Officer Leader Course (BOLC) and the Clinical Nurse Transition Program (CNTP).
Medical-surgical nurses are the backbone of inpatient nursing care in the Army. They provide comprehensive nursing care to service members, retirees, and their families across a wide range of medical and surgical conditions. 66H nurses work in hospitals, field settings, and combat support hospitals, managing patient care, coordinating interdisciplinary treatment plans, and mentoring junior personnel. Their broad skill set enables them to adapt to diverse clinical environments, making them essential to both peacetime healthcare and combat readiness.
After one year of service as a 66H nurse, Army nurses can apply for training in other clinical specialties.
