Command Sergeant Major’s Biography


Command Sergeant Major Darrell E. Walls assumed responsibility as the Command Sergeant Major of the United States Army Cadet Command on 25 March 2025. A native of Galax, Virginia, he graduated from Midland Valley High School in Langley, SC in August 1994. He joined the Army in December 1994 as a 13B Cannon Crewmember.

After completing Advanced Individual Training, he began his military career as a cannon crewmember and section chief in 2-319th Airborne Field Artillery Regiment, Fort Bragg North Carolina. His following assignments include section chief, gunnery sergeant, and platoon sergeant in 3-7 Field Artillery, Schofield Barracks, Hawaii; OC/T at the National Training Center, Fort Irwin, California; and Operations Sergeant and First Sergeant in 2-320th Field Artillery Regiment. Command Sergeant Major Walls also completed assignments as the Battalion Command Sergeant Major of 3-320th Field Artillery Regiment, Fort Campbell, Kentucky; Division Artillery Command Sergeant Major of 1AD DIVARTY, Fort Bliss, Texas; Brigade Command Sergeant Major of 5th Armored Brigade, Fort Bliss, Texas; and Command Sergeant Major of 56th Artillery Command, Wiesbaden, Germany.

Command Sergeant Major Walls has completed four deployments to locations including Iraq and Afghanistan. He holds a Bachelor of Science in Management from Park University and a Master of Business Administration from Excelsior College. Command Sergeant Major Walls’ awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Air Assault Badge, Master Parachutist Badge and the Combat Action Badge. He is a recipient of the Ancient Order of Saint Barbara and the Sergeant Audie Murphy Award.
